Lorraine Dalley & Kevin Bastion


With a heavy heart, we notify our community of the passing of Lorraine Dalley and Kevin Bastion. Our sincere condolences are sent to their loved ones.

Lorraine was a member of the Broadway Demons (later just Broadway) Softball Club. The Dalleys were the founding members of the Broadway Club which was founded in 1937 and was based at Crawford Green.

Lorraine, a WSA life member, played Premier Softball for Broadway and represented Wellington Women at National Tournaments and was selected for the North Island to play against the South Island. She later became the Wellington Women’s Senior Representative Coach. Lorraine was the Assistant Coach of the National Women’s Team when they finished 3rd at the World Series in El Salvador in 1978.

As well as serving on the Wellington Association, Lorraine was a NZ Council member and gave a huge amount of her time back to softball, often coaching school children’s teams.

Her husband “Dig” also served on the Association and was also a Life Member.

Kevin Bastion was a Wellington Umpire who umpired Premier Men’s and Women’s games over a long period of time. Kevin umpired in Wellington from the mid/late 80s through the 90s. He served as President/Chief Umpire for the Wellington Umpires from 1997-1999. He umpired around NZ in the national tournament programme. He was a member of the Marist Softball Club.
