PREMIER
WELLINGTON COMPETITON

Winners 23/24

Mens - Poneke Kilbirnie

Womens - Johnsonville

The Women’s Te Ahi Kaa trophy was expertly carved by Nathan Rei from Toi Rakau Carvers (Ngati Toa Iwi) whilst the Men’s Te Ahi Kaa trophy is a carved and refurbished National League trophy.

These trophies will then become the “Ranfurly Shield” of our local club competition, with the holders of the trophy having to put the trophy on the line every time they meet another Wellington team for next year's Intercity/Wellington Competition.

Premier 1 Mens

Premier 1 Womens

Premier 2 Womens

WSA has nominated a handful of games within the Men’s Intercity Competition to count towards the Premier Wellington Competition points table. There are 3 teams in the Premier 1 Men’s grade. These games will occur in the second round of the Intercity Competition.

The Women’s Premier Wellington Competition will be different as they only have 2 teams in each of the Intercity Premier 1 & 2 Competitions. WSA has opted to schedule a midweek playoff game for both the Premier 1 and 2 grades. They will play on separate nights.

Premier 1 Men’s Grade

The three teams (Poneke Kilbirnie, Porirua City United, and Island Bay) will verse each other once in a single round-robin. The following Intercity games will be nominated as Premier Men’s Wellington Competition round-robin fixtures.

  • 02/12/2023 – Poneke Kilbirnie v Island Bay 1pm Hataitai Park D1
  • 16/12/2023 – Porirua City United v Island Bay 1pm Porirua Park D1
  • 16/12/2023 – Poneke Kilbirnie v Porirua City United  3:30pm Hataitai Park D1

The two top teams will face each other in a Premier Men’s Wellington Competition Final which is to be held on Thursday 29th February at Hataitai Park. The winner of this game will be awarded the Te Ahi Kaa Trophy for 2024

Premier 1 Women’s Grade

As there are only two teams in the Intercity Competition (Miramar and Johnsonville), we will schedule a Premier Women’s Wellington Competition Final on Tuesday the 27th of February at Hataitai Park. The winner of this game will be awarded the Te Ahi Kaa Trophy for 2024

Premier 2 Women’s Grade

As there are only two teams in the Premier 2 Women’s Intercity Competition (Poneke Kilbirnie and Tawa), we will schedule a Premier 2 Women’s Wellington Competition Final on Wednesday the 28th of February at Hataitai Park. The winner of this game will be awarded the A. Jenkins Major Reserve Trophy for 2024

TROPHIES

The Women’s Te Ahi Kaa trophy was expertly carved by Nathan Rei from Toi Rakau Carvers (Ngati Toa Iwi) whilst the Men’s Te Ahi Kaa trophy is a carved and refurbished National League trophy.

The winners of the Premier 2 Women’s Wellington Competition will be awarded the A. Jenkins Major Reserve Women’s Trophy.

Premier 3 Mens

This 7-week competition will incorporate a 5-week round robin, with a 2-week finals format (Semis/Finals). No play weekend on Saturday 3rd February (Waitangi Weekend). There are a few Premier 2 tournaments over that weekend so we have made it free in case teams would like to enter.

The game allocations for this competition will be club days as opposed to Home/Away. The aim is to create a buzz around the parks and allow WSA to nurture/support our softball community. Clubs will have more opportunities to fundraise and open their doors to spectators on game days. This competition allows us to explore new formats in a way that can facilitate growth and support our clubs.

All Wellington club teams will be organized into grades similar to Intercity level competition. To differentiate our competition from the Intercity Competition we have re-named our Wellington Competition grades.

RAIN OUTS/CATCH-UP DAYS

This season WSA will be allocating catch-up days for all Premier competitions. Where games are rained out, they will be rescheduled to the next available catch-up day.

Game times and field allocations will remain the same. These catch-up days will be scheduled at the beginning of the season, it’s the teams’ responsibility to ensure they are available for all catch-up days. If teams are not able to play their rained-out games on allocated catch-up days, they will have to settle for the loss.

There will be a total of 3 catch-up days scheduled during the Wellington Competition.
